A Perfected People, September 19
Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to
the glory of God.
1 Corinthians 10:31
.
With an eye single to the glory of God, we should give careful, thought-
ful attention to the matter of our eating and drinking. We need divine
guidance, even in our commonest habits of everyday life, that there may
be no little leaks which will consume means unnecessarily, simply for
the gratification of perverted appetites. In the New Testament not one
of God’s requirements loses its binding force, or relaxes in the least its
obligation to be fulfilled.... Instead of the requirements of God being
relaxed in the New Testament, the lines are drawn closer, and duty is more
distinctly defined. The apostle says, “Whatsoever ye do,” even in the
matter of eating and drinking, “do all to the glory of God.” The question
may be asked, “May I not do what I like with myself? Am I never to have
my own way? Is not my body my own?” You may have your own way,
but it will be at the loss of your soul, or you may have God’s way and live
to a purpose in this world, and in the world to come have life everlasting.
Those who have received instruction regarding the evils of the use of
flesh foods, tea and coffee, and rich and unhealthful food preparations, and
who are determined to make a covenant with God by sacrifice, will not
continue to indulge their appetite for food that they know to be unhealth-
ful. God demands that the appetites be cleansed, and that self-denial be
practiced in regard to those things which are not good. This is a work that
will have to be done before His people can stand before Him a perfected
people.... Those who claim to believe in health reform, and yet work
counter to its principles in the daily life practice, are hurting their own
souls and are leaving wrong impressions upon the minds of believers and
unbelievers.
Do not misuse or abuse any portion of your God-given powers, physi-
cal, mental, or moral. All your habits are to be brought under the control
of a mind that is itself under the control of God.
